Tips on remaining safe against Covid-19

What is Covid-19?

Coming from the coronavirus family, Covid-19 is an infectious disease that can cause mild to moderate respiratory problems in those infected, however, the effect can be a lot worse for the elderly, people with underlying health problems, or people with weakened immune systems.

How is it transmitted?

The virus is primarily spread through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person either coughs or sneezes. Not only do infected individuals need to protect others from themselves, but non-infected individuals should also take measures to protect themselves.

There is currently no known cure for the virus but there are many steps you can take to help ensure you’re reducing the risk of infection.

How to stop the spread

WEAR A MASK

A study from the Population Research Institute predicted that a population in which 80% of people
were wearing a mask in society would be more effective in stopping the Covid-19 spread, compared
to a strict lockdown.

Although not 100% effective, wearing a mask will greatly reduce the risk of transmission. WHO
guidance is now accepting cloth masks as being suitable, as well as medical-grade masks,
as they encourage at least some form of facial covering.

WASH YOUR HANDS

Washing your hands with soap and water is widely regarded by healthcare professionals as
a most effective way of killing the virus, however, if that is not possible, an alcohol-based sanitizer
gel with a concentration of 70% is also deemed suitable.

CLEAN & DISINFECT HIGH-TOUCH AREAS

It’s important that high-touch areas are regularly cleaned in order to prevent the further spread of
the virus. Such locations include door handles, tables, kettles & phones. Regular cleaning products
& disinfectants should be able to clean these effectively, as long as they have the appropriate EN
testing approval.
