The Importance of Peracide

What is Peracide?

Peracide is an in-situ formulated tablet that consists of two precursors (hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid) that react to produce peracetic acid.

Peracetic acid is a highly effective broad-spectrum biocide that has been used since the 1950s as a pre-formed liquid at either 5% or 30%. Pre-formed peracetic acid at 5-30% is corrosive, highly flammable, and unstable. It is also difficult to handle and costly transport.

Peracide in-situ tablet formulation is able to prevent the solution from being flammable and corrosive and adding co-actives to the mix can enhance the stability, efficacy, and pH of the product.

Whereas many disinfection products on the market are sachets that dissolve in water or concentrated liquids that are poured into the water prior to cleaning, Peracide is supplied as a soluble tablet. This allows the user to simply measure the correct amount of water and then add the correct number of tablets into the water.

Evidence has shown that with the use of an effective disinfectant system that cross-infection and outbreaks can be reduced by as much as 70%, as well as reducing the cost of using hydrogen peroxide vaporizers or UVCs.

Why should I choose it?

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Peracide is an environmentally friendly product that produces a completely biodegradable disinfectant.

It is a non-toxic and non-corrosive formulation with excellent cleaning properties making it safe for use
on a variety of surfaces including stainless steel, ceramic porcelain, plastics, rubber, etc, in addition to
it being safe for plants and humans.

Upon breakdown, Peracide breaks down into water, vinegar, and carbon dioxide, meaning it is
safe for environmental disposal.

UNIQUE COLOUR-CHANGING ACTIVATION SYSTEM

Peracide’s integrated color indicator system provides clear direction to the user on how to use the
product, as it will show the user when the solution has lost its efficacy.

BROAD MICROBIOLOGICAL EFFICACY

Peracide is BPR (Biocidal Products Regulation) and DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food
and Rural Affairs) approved, as well as being tested to BSEN standards against spores, viruses,
bacteria, and fungi that include C. difficile spores, noroviruses, E. coli, and many more.

Peracide has passed all relevant EN tests concerning prominent pathogens and it performs well
in a wide range of environmental conditions. Peracide has undergone rigorous testing at the
Department of Medical Microbiology at the UCLH Foundation Trust, under the supervision of the
Environmental Research Group, headed by Professor Peter Wilson.

AVAILABLE ON NHS SUPPLY CHAIN
